When it comes to creating video one of the most frequently asked questions is, “How long is this going to take?” And it really is a valid question, because turnaround time is something that varies from project to project. But no matter the video, what you don’t want to do is discount the amount of time the post production process will take. Here are some things for you to keep in mind when asking how long a video will take to complete.
One video or multiple videos?
Think about how many videos you want before you start. Obviously, the more videos you want, the more time the project will take to complete. Having a set number of videos before the post production process starts will help expedite the process and keep the edits on schedule.
How long do you want the videos to be?
Length is always key when it comes to how long the post production process is going to take. Something like a 3-5 minute brand story video will always take longer than a 15 second sizzle. Think about the goal of the video and what you’re using it for to determine the length you want it to be. And don’t be afraid to get input from the person you’re hiring to create it about what they think the length should be for what you’re looking to do.
Do you have a deadline?
Do you need the video(s) done by a certain date? If so, let your videographer know up front. Knowing this they can tell you things like the absolute latest you need to shoot and how quickly the turnaround time of your revisions will need to be in order to hit your deadlines.
